Felony theft case closed; near $45K in oil field pipe recovered
Cotton Valley, La. -- Feb 23, 2010 --

Webster Parish Sheriff’s investigators, finalizing a felony theft case dating back to late January of this year, recovered and returned nearly every piece of a $45K stolen supply of oil filed pipe.

Earlier this year investigators were called when a large supply of oil field pipe was reported missing from a Cotton Valley site. Leads took deputies straight to two Sarepta brothers; and
Robert Kem Gryder, 33, was charged with felony theft and felony theft by fraud and his brother, Joshua Cain Gryder, 26, was charged with felony theft.

At that time, Sheriff’s investigators Det. Tommy Kemp and Capt. Jay Hortman had recovered approximately 260 of the near 350 joints of stolen pipe. As of last week, they returned nearly all of the property to its rightful owner, XTO.

“Seven sticks are all that is still missing,” said Kemp. “But we’re satisfied with what we recovered; and so is the owner.”

Investigators say they tracked down the additional pipe using further information they received in follow-up interviews with the Gryder brothers.
