Webster CAD Patrol Team busts Mississippi man with high-dollar marijuana
Minden, La. -- Feb 18, 2010 --

A Meridian, Mississippi man was arrested by Webster Parish Sheriff’s Community Action Directed Patrol team members late Wednesday after he was found to be in possession of a hefty amount of marijuana while traveling I-20 through Webster Parish.

Terrance Deshay Smith, 29, was charged with possession of a CDS Schedule I with intent to distribute and following too closely after deputies conducted a traffic stop and discovered the drugs.

“We learned that the car was a rental vehicle,” said Lt. Robert Hayden and CAD Patrol team leader. “But Smith was not the person who rented the vehicle. That sent up a red flag.”

As a deputy began to question Smith about the potential for having any illegal narcotics, Smith became extremely nervous, as explained by deputies.

“He gave us consent to search his vehicle,” said Hayden. “So we used the assistance of canine ‘Chesapeake Cyndi’ in the search.”

“Chesapeake Cyndi” alerted officers to the rear of the car, where they found luggage containing two large containers of what has been described by officers as “high-dollar” marijuana. Approximately 120 grams (just over a ¼ pound) of the substance was seized, and some research suggests that similar forms of quality, potent marijuana can have a street value of up to $20 per gram.

Smith was transported and booked at Webster’s Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
