$4500 in drug money recovered in Webster
-“ Chesapeake Cyndi” sniffs out the stash
Cullen, La. --
Jan 26, 2010 --
Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Community Action Directed Patrol team members joined up with the Louisiana Office of Probation and Parole Tuesday morning to locate a man wanted for violation of his parole; but the man ended up earning an additional drug charge—and losing a large sum of cash.
Anthony “Ant G” Smith, 26, of Barrett Street in Cullen was taken into custody on charges of parole violation and felony possession of a CDS Schedule I (marijuana).
Reportedly, Probation and Parole officers located Smith and called Webster Sheriff’s deputies to assist. When the Sheriff’s K-9 “Chesapeake Cyndi” arrived on scene, she alerted to her handler, Lt. Robert Hayden, indicating narcotics were near.
“Chesapeake Cyndi alerted in two locations,” said Hayden. “On a dresser in the bedroom, and on a jacket. A bag of suspected marijuana was found in the dresser—and around $4500 in cash was found in a hidden pocket of the jacket.”
Chesapeake Cyndi, nationally certified to sniff out several forms of illegal narcotics, made the hit on the money because it had been exposed to drugs, explained Hayden. “And he [Smith] couldn’t explain where the money had come from,” he concluded.
Officers seized the cash and a bag of the green vegetation and Smith was transported for booking to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center .
