Devell "Tookie" Carteal Wortham

Over the weekend law enforcement efforts in Webster Parish resulted in a number of arrests—and a few ‘closed cases’ for the Department.

Webster’s ‘most wanted’ fugitive, Devell “Tookie” Carteal Wortham, 32, of Springhill was apprehended Friday by Springhill Police after officers followed leads to an abandoned house on Hickory Street in Springhill. Wortham was taken into custody on two active warrants (burglary and possession of cocaine) through Springhill Police Department, and will be charged by Webster Sheriff’s narcotics investigators for distribution of crack cocaine. Reportedly Wortham was in possession of suspected rock cocaine upon arrest.

Nicholas Chambers, 22, of Sibley was arrested on charges of possession of pornography involving juveniles and possession of drug paraphernalia following an investigation into allegations that he was downloading child pornography on his computer. Sheriff’s cybercrime investigators conducted an initial forensic preview of Chambers’ computer and discovered several pornographic images of juveniles. A complete forensic search will follow, and more charges could be possible.

Nicholas D. Williams, 40, of Minden was arrested for DWI 1st offense and careless operation after his vehicle crashed on Hwy. 531 in Dubberly early Monday morning.

Joseph W. Johnson, 20, of Springhill was arrested for DWI 1st after he was stopped for speeding Saturday night. Deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and Johnson confessed to consuming alcohol before driving. Sobriety and breath tests were performed, validating the charge.

Arthur G. Alford, Sr., 60, of Ringgold was charged with DWI 1st and speeding after he was stopped by deputies on Hwy. 371 in the early morning hours of Saturday. Alford admitted to consuming alcohol when questioned by officers, and he reportedly performed poorly on sobriety and breath tests.

Michael D. Jefferson, Jr., 24, of Minden was arrested and charged with DWI 1st and speeding late Saturday night on Penal Farm Road. Deputies detected an odor of alcoholic beverages and conducted field sobriety and breath tests, on which Jefferson performed poorly.

All individuals were transported for booking to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
