Webster deputies tackle domestic violence, drunk driving
Jan 11, 2010 --

During the past few days, Webster Parish Sheriff’s patrols have made multiple arrests for offenses including domestic violence, home invasion and drunk driving.

On Saturday Webster deputies responded to a domestic call on Middle Road in Minden where James P. Denning, 36, of Minden allegedly invaded his estranged wife’s home with violence.

It began with a call from the woman’s residence reporting that her husband, with whom she is separated, had forced his way into her home and violently struck both her and her visitor. Denning had fled the scene when deputies were called for assistance; however an official BOLO (“Be On The Look Out”) announcement was released and Denning was picked up in Bossier Parish on Sunday. He was transported back to Webster Parish for booking into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center .

Denning’s charges include domestic abuse batter, simple battery and home invasion.

In unrelated incidents, Webster deputies picked up several for drunk driving.

Dexter Maurice Morris, 42, of Cotton Valley was arrested Sunday and charged with felony DWI 4th offense, driving under suspension, carless operation, and driving left of center line.

His arrest followed deputies’ response to a reported wreck on Hwy. 371 South. Upon contact with the driver, Morris’ strong odor of alcoholic impurities and strange behavior piqued the interest of responders. Morris performed poorly on sobriety tests and during treatment for minor injuries at Minden Medical Center he consented to a blood alcohol test which indicated intoxication.

Morris was quickly released from care following treatment at MMC into the custody of deputies who transported him to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center .

Early Monday morning deputies, along with Sibley Police Chief Jeremy Robinson, stopped a driver traveling through the Town of Sibley at a high rate of speed. The driver, Lurline H. Jones, 69, of Heflin smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage and officers initiated field sobriety tests, in which she reportedly performed poorly.

Jones was taken into custody and charged with DWI 1st and expired motor vehicle inspection. Upon transport and arrival at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center , where Jones was booked, she also consented to a test which indicated an elevated blood alcohol content.

Among these arrests was another of an underage male from Minden who was charged with underage DWI 1st and careless operation after he wrecked the vehicle he was driving on Hwy. 159 late Saturday night. He was also transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for booking.
