New Year’s celebrations end with DWI arrests
- Webster deputies net two for drunk driving
Celebrating the onset of a new year is often accompanied by alcoholic beverages, but Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton reminds drivers that those beverages can not be accompanied by driving—even during a holiday!
On New Year’s Eve night, just before midnight, Webster deputies Wade Wells and Lt. Robert Hayden, both of the Sheriff’s CAD Patrol team, came upon a vehicle on Blue Run Road that appeared to possibly have been in an accident. As they approached the vehicle they made contact with the driver, William Floyd Bell, aka “Bill”, 51, of Minden who advised the deputies that he’d gotten stuck in the ditch.
Bell smelled strongly of alcoholic impurities and showed physical signs of intoxication. He even admitted to the officers that he was drunk and volunteered field sobriety testing, of which he was unable to complete. A high blood alcohol content was registered by the Intozilyzer 5000 when Bell offered a breath sample. Bell was arrested and charged with DWI 1st and careless operation of a vehicle.
Shortly after midnight, now officially in the New Year, Jon Galen Stanley, 52, of Doyline was stopped by deputies Bobby Igo, III and Rick Corke for improper lane usage. Upon contact with Stanley, the deputies detected a strong odor of alcoholic impurities and a field sobriety test was administered. Stanley performed poorly and was placed under arrest. He later submitted a breath sample and the Intozilyzer 5000 registered an extremely high blood alcohol content.
Stanley was charged with DWI 2nd and improper lane usage. Both men were transported and booked at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
