Deputy Lt. Kenneth Treece, a loyal and dedicated law enforcement officer to Webster Parish for more than 21 years passed away this morning following a long battle with cancer. The Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office will honor his life and remember the service and dedication for years to come.

 

“Ken’s kindness and commitment to the citizens in Webster Parish is something I will never forget,” explained Webster Sheriff Gary S. Sexton. “The integrity and honor he displayed in every action he took while serving with us is commendable, admirable and deeply impressionable.”

 

During the past six months friends, family and coworkers joined in fundraising efforts by developing “Friends of Ken’s”. This amazing grass-roots communal effort resulted in a fundraising total of more than $100,000 that purchased the Treece family a new manufactured home, where Mrs. Billie Treece is now raising their three grandchildren. Kenneth and Billie sadly lost their daughter to Lou Gehrig’s disease nearly one year ago and following her death they gained legal custody of her three children.

 

“The spirit and support that was shown during this amazing and supportive effort to help Billie transition into a home better fit for raising these sweet kids was unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” said Sexton. “It’s just a testament, though, to how many lives both Ken and Billie have touched during their years of public service.”

 

Ken’s absence in the Department will be deeply noticed, added Sexton in an official release. “Integrity and nobility like that which was shown by Ken Treece is not something often seen in a human being; and I can only hope to leave behind a mark of such honor when I leave this earth. He will be sorely missed—and forever remembered,” concluded Sexton.

 

Arrangements for visitation have been made at Bailey Funeral Home in Springhill for Saturday, November 21, 2009; and funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Central Baptist Church in Springhill.
