-Deputies arrest three for drugs, alcohol
Oct 27, 2009 --

MARC ANDERSON; SIDNEY SEARS; SHELBY KENNON, JR.

During the weekend Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies conducted insurance checkpoints throughout the parish in an effort to identify uninsured drivers. While the checkpoint turned up few for insurance incompliance, it did lead to the arrest of two men.

Marc Linsdey Anderson, 30, of Minden traveled towards the checkpoint on Old Arcadia Road when he abruptly stopped and carelessly turned around in an obvious effort to avoid contact with officers. Lt. Robert Hayden, team leader of the Sheriff’s Community Action Directive (CAD) Patrol team conducted a traffic stop on Anderson and immediately detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. After a field sobriety test administered by Hayden revealed poor performance by Anderson, a search of his car was conducted, revealing an opened alcoholic mixed drink.
Anderson was taken into custody and charged with DWI 5th, improper lane usage, and open container.   He was transported and booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center after he refused the Intoxilyzer 5000.

Sidney Jerod Sears, 25, of Sibley traveled through the checkpoint on Penal Farm Road as a passenger in a vehicle when deputies observed him with an open container of alcohol and what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette in his hands. When officers repeatedly asked that he exit the vehicle and drop what was in his hands he refused. Sears was removed from the car and a search of his person revealed drug paraphernalia.

Sears was taken into custody and charged with resisting an officer, open container and drug paraphernalia. He was transported and booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

In an unrelated matter, Shelby Kennon, Jr., 29, of Sibley was stopped by deputies over the weekend for speeding, but was ultimately arrested for DWI 2nd, speeding, open container, possession of a CDS schedule II (marijuana), and introduction of contraband to a prison.

Kennon smelled of an alcoholic beverage when deputies stopped him on Creighton Road. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests and providing a breath sample via the Intoxilyzer 5000, Kennon was arrested on the related charges; however upon booking into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center, deputies discovered a bag of suspected marijuana hidden on his person and the additional charges were added.

“None of these individuals should have ever been out on the roads,” explained Sheriff’s Chief Criminal Deputy Bobby Igo. “I don’t know that people will ever completely stop making such poor choices; but I do know we won’t ever quit trying to stop them.”
