Heflin woman killed in weekend tractor accident
Heflin, La. --
Sep 28, 2009 --
Webster Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded this weekend to the scene of a fatal accident involving a tractor turnover. The heavy machinery turned over on top of its driver and fell into a culvert when its tires shifted off of the steep incline on which it was moving.
Susan Tatum Pigott, 54, of Franklin Road in Heflin was pinned and killed in the accident that took place at her Webster Parish residence. Deputies on scene confirmed from the evidence that the accident occurred while Pigott was bush-hogging. Circumstances surrounding the incident involved the slipping of the tractor tires, the steep incline, weight of elevated tractor bucket and the close proximity of the deep culvert.
“It is such a sad thing to see happen,” commented Sheriff Gary S. Sexton. “Unfortunately this incident is not the first tractor related fatality we have seen this year in Webster Parish. I urge people to be extremely cautious and safeguarded when operating large equipment. Even when we know our machine and our territory, we must always be aware of the dangers involved.”
