Narcotics investigators for the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Department remained active this week following leads that ultimately led to the arrest of two individuals on separate drug-related charges.
Michael Wayne Duck, 43, of Sarepta was arrested following the close of a near six-month investigation. Detectives explored different tips they had received that indicated Duck’s possible involvement with methamphetamine drugs. Those leads directed investigators to the evidence which confirmed his possession of several narcotic substances found during the execution of a search of his Porterville Road residence.
On Wednesday Duck was taken into custody by deputies for two charges of possession of a CDS Schedule II (methamphetamine and illegally obtained prescription drugs), one count of possession of a CDS Schedule I (marijuana), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“We looked into Duck for months,” explained Sheriff’s Lt. Det. Shawn Baker. “Our investigation led to probable cause to search; and our search turned up the drugs.”
Duck was transported and booked into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center with a bond amount of $21,500.00.
Earlier this week Sheriff’s detectives began an investigation into a potential child endangerment issue, during which time they uncovered evidence that led to the arrest of James Earl Hawkins, 49, of Doyline.
“In cooperation with the Office of Children’s Services we explored a situation of concern,” explained Sheriff’s Sgt. Det. Barry James. “During a permitted search of his [Hawkins’] home we found his stash of marijuana—hidden in is NASCAR model car collection.”
Following the search and Hawkins’ subsequent admission of ownership of the narcotics, deputies took him into custody on one count of possession of a CDS Schedule I (marijuana) and he was transported to the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center for booking.
